Ethan. Turns out he had an ear infection (we had suspected it) so he's on antibiotics. He is weighing in at 22 lbs. 12 ounces (the 10-25th %tile) and is 31 1/2 inches tall (25th %tile). His head circumference is in the 75th %tile (that Winkler head I tell you).

Gabriel is free of this last ear infection and hopefully we'll be good to go since he had the tubes put in over Christmas vacation. If he still has issues with his ears, then he'll have to have his adnoids removed... let's hope this does it. He is weighing in at 23 lbs and is 31 inches tall (just a 1/2 an inch shorter than his brother) and his head circumference is in the 20th %tile (avoiding the Winkler head issue... :).

Maximillian is coming in light at the 28 lbs. 13 ounces and is at 32 inches tall. His head circumference is at the 90th %tile (2 out of 3 kids have that Winkler noggin).

Overall Dr. Dan was impressed with their growth and very much satisifed with their development. It was a great appointment.

Just had to share their numbers with everyone... Good night!

Becky

Where did the Winklets go?

I read my last post and thought... wow... where did four months vanish? My intentions were to keep this blog updated with news, pictures and videos.. and then reality hit me- I was a working mom of three and this was easier said than done. Here's the quick update:

We are doing really well. The boys just get bigger and better every single day. They are coming into their own personalities now, and it's been so much fun to watch them laugh and play (okay, they fight and scream too)! We will be going for our 18 month check-up in a couple of weeks, and I can hardly believe that they are almost 2 years old!!!

Max is our sensitive bear. He's a very sweet natured little boy. He is also the one that will cry when either of his brothers take away his toy or if he happens to fall or bump his head. He talks with the smallest voice and is saying things like, "Daddy", "Momma", "No-No" and sometimes we hear him saying his brother's names.

Ethan is our adventurous spirit. I think I will be lead to drink b/c of his boys' ability to just "shake it off"! He has climbed just about everything- even out of his crib one night. He is always in motion and always intense in meeting his goal.

Gabe has started to walk and is doing his best to keep up with his brothers. He has been our "thinker" and we think that he is going to be the "mastermind" behind most of the plans these three attempt to execute (both the good and the bad)! He has struggled with ear infections, got tubes put in on New Year's Eve and then got anther ear infection (of all the luck!). But, he's on the mend now and you'd never even know he wasn't feeling well. Gabe's laugh is just infectious (check it out on the new montage!).

Well, I didn't want you to think we'd forgotten about the website. My New Year's resolution is to actually do a posting more than once every six months... we'll see how that goes!

Becca
August is almost over!

I haven't updated the website in a really long time, but here's a quick one. The boys are doing FABULOUSLY!! We had our one year check-up and everyone did excellent. Mommy had a hard time with all the shots, but so did the boyos. Here's the break down for the boys' stats:

Max
weight: 26 lbs.(85th %tile)
Height: 28 1/4 inches (25th %tile)
Head: 85th %tile

Gabe:
weight: 20 lbs. (15th %tile)
Height: 27 1/2 inches (5th %tile)
Head: 15th %tile

Ethan
weight: 18 lbs. (5th %tile)
Height: 27 1/2 inches (3rd %tile)
Head: 40th %tile

Dr. Dan said that everyone looked good. We are treating Max for asthma- giving him medication each night has really reduced his wheezing. Again, this is not unheard of for preemies. I think Mike and I were shocked that it was Max running into the asthma issues and not Ethan considering he was the one on the oxygen for so long. Dr. Dan also said that Gabe and Ethan might benefit from going to a dentist b/c of the discoloration of their teeth- just to rule out any decay issues now. I guess it will affect their little toofers when they get older. I was shocked that dentists even saw one year olds. They don't have to go back until the winter- yeah!

Other than that, Mike and I are wrapping up the summer. I am returning to teaching, but not at Waterford Union. I accepted a new position with CESA teaching at an alternative school in hopes that the reduction of paperwork will mean that I will be able to balance things at home better. I am nervous about returning to work... and nervous about leaving the boys. Having spent the last year with them (a true gift I can't even describe) it's going to make being away from them that more difficult.

I have done another photo montage- hope you all enjoy the update!

Becky and Mike

"He's a tactile learner..."

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_RQ112RI5uEk/SISIn3agLHI/AAAAAAAAABQ/19EY7aWOdFY/s320/IMG00029.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5225451686128004210" />

I am an educator, I understand what "tactile learner" means... but I had ABSOLUTELY no idea what the reality of that statement was until this weekend. Ethan James was described as a tactile learner by his therapists. He is crawling all over the place and we are very thankful for all of their hard work to ensure that he is developing correctly and using all of his muscles- I think! On Saturday, I put Ethan in the exersaucer b/c he has been getting into things all over the house, now that he's crawling and so curious about his surroundings. I was tired, and I thought there was a chance that I would doze off- I wanted him safe... right? Well, all of a sudden I heard a "boom"- and when I opened my eyes- Ethan was not in the saucer any longer, but on the floor... yes... this means that ETHAN CLIMBED OUT OF THE EXERSAUCER!!! That little munchkin wanted the toys on the floor and found a way to get to them. The even scarier part is that he didn't cry, wasn't even startled, so on top of being so curious he's also FEARLESS. We are investing in a play yard pronto- and we are wondering if we are going to survive Ethan's childhood as this is only a precurser to the things that will come... UGH! This is a picture of our "Indiana Jones" already attempting to climb the stairs in our living room... we said we wanted them to crawl and be more active, now we are going to start the real adventure!!!

Click on Image for Birthday video

Birthday Celebration!

FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! Today was their first birthday party- we had invited about 100 people (nothing small in this house!) and our boyos were so good. I had tried to arrange it so the party started after their second nap, so as to keep them in their routine for the day of festivities. This was only semi-successful b/c the boys woke up really early from their naps. But, you'd never know it as they were ohhhh'ed and ahhh'ed over, passed from one family member to another friend. They have decided that Auntie Amy's banana cake is right where it's at- they LOVED IT! Even Gabe ate like a champ! Someone mentioned that now I know what to give Gabe to get him to eat solid food. I would eat banana cake every day too! We were blessed with really good weather- we didn't even need the two tents we had put up for anything other than shade! It was really a nice party- we had a chance to see everyone we loved and celebrate the boy's life- and that we all survived that first year.

I said during the party that I wouldn't have another birthday party until the boys turned sixteen, and then after the party that changed to when they turned five, and now... well, we'll see what next year brings. I loved having a reason to get our families together. To be honest, I loved showing everyone how healthy and happy our babies are. It was a great day to celebrate our blessings- family and friends... babies.

I am adding a photo montage of the birthday. People have asked where I was able to put together the other videos and it's all from www.onetruemedia.com it is so easy and really fun!

Thank you to everyone who joined us today!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://winklets3.blogspot.com/2008/07/first-birthday-yeah.html' title='FIRST BIRTHDAY!!! I can't even begin to express how this year has changed our lives... It's been amazing, overwhelming, insane, exhausting, joyful, fearful, exhilerating, and by far one of the most wonderful moments in my life.
It seems like yesterday when I was admitted to WAMH, for issues with Gabe's umbilical cord. The doctors said that I needed to make it to as far along as I could, but we needed to do hospital bed rest and daily monitorring to make sure that he was okay. That was on the 29th of June. Every day was filled with stress- would they be okay? What could I do to make sure our babies were safe? Each day they were looked at through an ultrasound, and each day I would breathe a sigh of relief- they scored well and we had one more day. But then, on July 9th, the doctor came into the room and said- well... it's not just Gabe showing signs of distress, but it's Ethan as well. Of course she used the technical terms like Baby B, and Baby C, but they were Gabe and Ethan to us. We had already had made the decision that we would have to do what we could to give all the babies a chance at life... so when I stared at Dr. Kuranz in shock, she said- "Do you want to have your c-section today or tomorrow?" What? What! I was so shocked, and scared. I had just made amends that I would be in the hospital for weeks- and now, literally days after passing the 28 week mark, we were discussing the c-section. It was "go time". I called Mike and at 5:58, 5:59 and 6:06 on July 9th we saw our children for the first time. Max gave out such a cry- it was like a kitten mewing. Gabe didn't cry and needed help breathing right away. Ethan's cry was very weak, but audible. I remember feeling as though I was having an "out of body" experience. They took me to recovery and all I kept thinking was that I just had the babies.. they're here. I never once worried if they were okay- I don't think my mind was even able to comprehend the struggles we would face. They took me to the isolets, and I just stared at these perfect faces. They were so beautiful. So delicate... so... amazing to me. And so began the LOONNNGG road ahead. I think it was about the third day when I actually realized that we would be going to the NICU for a very long time. The day they connected the boys to the oscillating ventilator was the day when I really panicked. I thought, my goodness, are my boys going to be okay? I never really thought they wouldn't make it, but I realized that I wasn't going to be taking them home with me anytime soon. It was a hard day. The ups and downs of the NICU were strenuous- I look at pictures of myself during that time and the bags under my eyes communicate more than I would ever admit to at the time. We had three babies in the NICU... three... UGH! After many sleepless nights, long afternoons and way too much hospital food- we were given great news. Max was coming home first- YIPEE... followed by an intense panic. I remember talking to my mom saying- we've spent so much time and money putting him together again- what if I break him? Well, it was a stressful transition, but a successful one! It was two week later and they told us Gabe was coming home, three days after that Ethan was also home with us and our family was complete. But now, instead of three babies in the NICU- we had three babies at home!!! Three babies. That meant a million bottles, medications, diapers, and very little sleep. I don't remember much of October, November, December, January and February. I know that we slept in small increments and that my days and nights were often confused. I know that in those months we climbed many a mountain and lived through some pretty low valleys- Ethan almost died by choking, Gabe had hernia surgery, trips to the ER for brochiolitis, oxygen and monitors, medications, and then in-home therapists. We got through it all with the help of family and friends and also each other.
As I look at the boys now I am simply amazed. They are doing so well. They have their own personalities and are developing into such adorable little boys. You can not deny the presence of God in my life- I have three miracles just in the next room. My life is infinitely more complete with the addition of our "winklets"- my husband and I are so indebted to family, friends, God and each other. Thank you to everyone who has shared in this journey with us. I hope you look to this blog to see updates on the boys. I know that each day brings new adventures....

Happy Birthday Boyos!!! Mommy and Daddy love you so much our hearts hurt.
